Coca-Cola’s DC Sessions is a great run of shows up here in DC every Saturday this summer. I went this weekend to catch They Might Be Giants (and a few other bands) and must admit it ruled. For starters, it was FREE!!!! Yeah, that’s always fun. But it’s right next to China Town and you can come and go as you please so if you don’t like whatever band is on at the moment, wander around, go get some good food and then come on back.
Spiraling was the first band and we only really caught their last two songs which were pretty damn good. The next two bands were completely unmemorable and simply fodder until TMBG came on and played a kick ass set. Second time seeing those guys live and they haven’t disappointed me yet. Cracker’s playing August 3rd, but my brother’s getting married that afternoon as well, so I guess I’ll have to give my best wishes to the bride and groom another time (kidding, my family would have my nuts if I passed up on my bro’s wedding for a concert). Blues Traveler’s gonna be there August 17th and that is one weekend that’s free, so I’ll probably catch that show. You should too. Gates open at 4, show starts at 5, each band takes about an hour or so (including set up) so if you just want to see the headliner, if you’re there by 7 you’ll be set.
Also, while in DC, Jenn and I wandered around and I took her by the Mini dealer on 14th street. I checked out their website last night and must admit, I want one of these cars. They’re pretty affordable, only about $16-18k for a decent one, and neat as hell. The only problem I’d have is, well, while $18,000 is affordable, it’d be tight, and, really, the novelty would wear off before the payments were through and I could go buy a Civic with that kinda money and still have enough left over for a computer or something. Yeah. But I’m thinking about it.
