Top 10 Habits of Highly Annoying Bloggers

  1. Bloggers who don’t enable comments on their blogs.
  2. Bloggers who rarely produce original content, instead simply aggregating links to other blogs that I already read.
  3. Bloggers who spend more time blogging about blogging than anything else.
  4. Bloggers who are FontBitches and don’t care.
  5. Bloggers who don’t provide any “about me” info on their blog, or pointers to it elsewhere on their site. I like to know more about the people I’m reading.
  6. Bloggers who don’t provide a blogroll.
  7. Bloggers who post excuses for not posting. I don’t care if you’re busy today. If you’re not posting, fine. I’ll just assume you had other things to do.
  8. Bloggers who react but rarely act. Commenting on what other people say or do is interesting, but I’m annoyed by folks who never seem to have original material. (Yes, this is like #2 but it’s not quite the same.)
  9. Bloggers who don’t provide obvious RSS links for their blog. Yes, I know that RSS auto-discovery is great, but not all tools do it.
  10. Bloggers who have TrackBack but don’t use it.

I couldn’t agree more with number 1, I’ve bitched about that a couple times myself.

Number 2 I’m sometimes guilty of, but I try and put some sort of personal comment next to things if I can. Otherwise, I think I’m providing a service by funneling these links to my five visitors so they don’t have to surf the web as much as I do to get their fix.

Number 3’s a good one. It’s kinda like what my drama teacher said back in high school, “I want you do do a skit and I don’t want it to be ‘what are we going to do for our drama skit.’”

Point 4 I’m very guilty of when I use CSS, and, you know what? I don’t care. I pick a font that best fits my design, it’s about asthetics, and if you can’t read my site, that’s my loss and I better be willing to take it.

Number 5, sure, but I don’t put ‘about me’ anymore because it took a lot of space and when my site was taking forever to load, that was one of the first things to go. I might make a JSKOnline link more promenent.

I agree completely with number 6. Give props to what you like, people.

Number 7 I do time to time, and while I can see where this person is coming from, I don’t have a huge problem with people giving reasons. Some people take the blogs personally and, especially given that you want more personal info in Number 5, this provides more insight into a blogger’s world.

Number 8 is very true. Yes, similar to #2, but different in that you not only post stuff from other people but that you never take the initiative to begin any decent conversations or use your blog to make new points. At least, that’s what I take from this.

I don’t think 9 is an issue. I mean, some folks can’t do RSS.

And I don’t know enough about TrackBack to really agree or disagree with 10
