Democrats: Lift ban on buying medicines from Canada

Montana’s Democratic governor thinks it “makes no sense” that the United States can import “cattle, hogs and logs” from Canada — but not cheaper prescription drugs.Maybe Canadian drugs are cheaper because their purchase is subsidized by Canadian taxpayers. If that truly is the case, then why do we American’s feel entitled to cheaper drugs on the backs of hardworking Canadians? If drugs are cheaper in Canada because our government refuses to do anything about it stateside, shouldn’t we pressure the government to do something here instead of letting us steal what Canadians are trying to provide their people?Speaking in the weekly Democratic radio address Saturday from Helena, Montana, Gov. Brian Schweitzer said “local pharmacists should be allowed to reimport safe, affordable prescription drugs from Canada, where American-made, U.S. taxpayer-subsidized medicine is sold for as little as half the U.S. retail price.”

Canada doesn’t allow advertising for prescription drugs. America does. Drug companies spend more on the drugs in America because they have to pay for ads. That is part of the reason why they are so expensive.

The drug companies also roll most of the R&D cost into the American price. We are paying for those newer, better drugs.
Not that I am a fan of slippery slope arguements but why stop at Canada? If we start gettng their cheaper drugs, then in a few yeasrs people will want some other nation’s cheaper drugs. Then they will want the free drugs the companies donate to thirdworld nations each and every year.
If we start buying Canada’s drugs, the drug companies will lose money. Then, being smart people who read the paper and knwo what is happening, they will increase the cost of Canada’s drugs. Nothing is gained except to piss off Canada.

How is that a bad thing?
