VPAP is a good source for keeping an eye on the finances of the various House of Delegates primary races set for June 14th. Keep an eye on it for updates over the next couple days as campaigns had to report their finances today…

Terri Schiavo

Monday, March 21st, 2005

Honestly, I don’t know how I feel on this situation. I don’t know if I can feel bad for her husband considering he’s cheated on her while she lay there in a coma. And I understand her parents wanting her to be fed because of the (probably slim) potential for recovery. Ultimately I feel bad for Terri Schiavo. She’s suffered for so many years and this on again/off again with her feeding tube can not be helping matters. Politically I do know that I’m not entirely comfortable with Congress stepping in on an issue that should probably be left to the States. Maybe that’s why a Federal judge isn’t moving too quick to decide on the matter.

But I did see an interesting insight from the Village Voice:

At a time when legislators of both parties are debating the merits of a constitutional amendment on marriage that seeks to make sacrosanct heterosexual vows, a huge majority in Congress (203-58 in the House early this morning) has voted to re-interpret those marriage vows, by denying the right of Schiavo’s husband, the next of kin, to arrange her dignified death.
Now, I don’t exactly agree with this because her “husband” hasn’t exactly been acting the part and should be treated as if he’s forfeited his rights as such, but, still, interesting take.

I just hope that whatever happens it turns out to be what is truly best for Terri.

The Old Days…

Monday, March 21st, 2005

So I’m surfing through the J’s Notes archives and, man, did I have fun. I had a lot of crap on this site, didn’t I? While I don’t think I’ll ever get back to those days of tons of useless links to weird things, I’m certainly gonna try. Who knows…

More on Shaun

How did I miss this FLS op-ed?

On certain issues, Orrock is a RINO (Republican in Name Only)
Del. Bobby Orrock’s served long enough. Let’s elect Shaun Kenney.

Orrock, Kenney vie for Republican nod

At political rallies just a mile from each other in Spotsylvania County, the two Republican candidates for the 54th District House of Delegates seat held separate campaign kickoffs yesterday.

At the Harrison Road Community Center, Spotsylvania County Republican Chairman Shaun Kenney announced that he will try to unseat longtime Republican Del. Bobby Orrock in the June 14 Republican primary.

Ah, but what about the crowds:
Surrounded by close friends, family and colleagues, Orrock, 49, announced his re-election candidacy at the Four-Mile Fork Shopping Center…
And they totaled only twenty people.

And Shaun? Well, no mention of his crowd was made AT ALL. Nevermind the fact that EIGHTY people were there, not counting the many children families brought to the event. And no mention of any speeches made because the reporter left before the event really began. Nevermind that Shaun was endorsed by the former Chairman of the Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors Rick Womble, or the Chairman of each the Fredericksburg and Caroline county GOP. And there was absolutely no reporting on Shaun’s speech, the crowd’s response, and the fact that this man is going to roll into June and win this.
