Okay…
Thursday, January 12th, 2006I’m a dork
Tuesday, January 10th, 2006Only I could have my day made by a sale on notebooks. You see, there are these notebooks called “Law Books” that are set up with that red margin offset about a third of the way into the page, allowing you to take notes in an outline format: major word or date on the left, all the details on the right. It’s how I normally take my notes. Only, until discovering these I had to draw a line on every page and it was just tedious.
Well, I found these but they’re pricy. $3.79 a pop. And the only place I’ve been able to find them is the eFollett bookstore here on campus. Well, online as well but they’re $4 there.
So I went to get some today. A bunch. Because nine times out of ten they don’t have any. I think they hide them in the back because they don’t seem to sell well. And Friday I saw stacks of them and was thrilled, got money over the weekend, went in this morning and, gasp, the stacks were gone! Oh such woe!
So I wandered the aisles, looking for my glorious notebooks, hoping I’d find some, just a handful so I could be set for the rest of my college career. Only five to ten was all I needed, and I was willing to pay good money for them.
And there they were, on the bottom shelf, all the colors of the rainbow and a big sale tag right in front.
$0.75US a pop.
I would say I nearly wet myself but that would be lying. I’m not THAT thrilled about notebooks. I did end up grabbing twenty of those bastards so I’m more than set for life, hell, probably set for my future law career. I may even go get more JUST to be sure.
Like I said, I’m a dork. Don’t hate me for it. Hate me because I’m a beautiful dork. With nice eyebrows. And eyes. Eyes are a plus.
SAY MY NAME!
Tuesday, January 10th, 2006Or, rather, your name. If you’re going to annoy people online. Or you’ll go to jail.
It’s no joke. Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity.Wonder how they’ll enforce this one…In other words, it’s OK to flame someone on a mailing list or in a blog as long as you do it under your real name. Thank Congress for small favors, I guess.
Way to go, Marcus Vick
Monday, January 9th, 2006Three days after being banished from Virginia Tech football and two days after announcing he would go pro, former VT quarterback Marcus Vick was charged with three counts of brandishing a firearm Sunday night. Quite the weekend for Vick the Younger. So much for that NFL career. Maybe the CFL or Arena League have an opening.

SIX IN A ROW, BABY!

The offense looked horrible but the defense showed how they got the Skins this far to begin with.
Bring on Seattle!
Top Five Albums Of 2005
Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006Quick note, I’m not that good at writing reviews and summaries. If I dig a cd and want other people to listen to it, I usually just lend it to them, let the music speak for itself. But since that’s not technically legal here on the World Wide Web, I’ve gotta try and hype this stuff. So just trust me when I say it’s good and worth an investment. If you buy it and hate it, let me know why cause you’re crazy.
Honorable Mentions:
Beck - “Guero”
22-20’s - “22-20’s”
Oasis - “Don’t Believe The Truth”
Franz Ferdinand - “You Could Have It So Much Better”
Ben Folds - “Songs For Silverman”

5. Tim Williams - Tales of Digression
The more I listen to this the more I dig it. The strong emotion Williams puts into each song shows. It’s light, a lot of acoustic guitar, and good background/chillin’ music. If you’re in a good mood it might be a bit of a downer, if you’re just neutral or down and out, it doesn’t feed but it certainly reflects.
Tracks of choice - Heartstrings, Not A Sound, Not That Hard

4. Giant Drag - Hearts And Unicorns
I’ve got a thing for girl singers of rock. Well, I’ve got a thing for girls in general, but girls that rock, that’s just a thing I can’t explain. Giant Drag’s first mainstream effort’s pretty solid, the guitar work’s nice and straight forward as Annie Hardy (mmmm…) has a grasp on what she does well and she does it. Just a rockin’ album with a cute front.
Tracks of choice - Cordial Invitation, Blunt Picket Fence, Everything’s Worse

3. Spoon - Gimmie Fiction
Why this band is not better known is beyond me. “Gimmie Fiction” just blows me away. These guys have a strong grasp on how to rock out while keeping it mellow enough as to fit any mood.
Tracks of choice - I Turn My Camera On, The Delicate Place, They Never Got You

2. Death Cab For Cutie - Plans
My first taste of DCFC proper coming right on the heels of my purchase of Postal Service’s “Give Up”. Top to bottom, a great album that mixies amazingly visual lyrics with lowkey music. Quite frankly, DCFC was my musical discovery of the year. I’ve grabbed some of their older albums and have yet to be disappointed.
Tracks of choice - I Will Follow You Into The Dark, Crooked Teeth, What Sarah Said

1. Ryan Adams and The Cardinals - Jacksonville City Nights
Out of the trilogy Ryan Adams churned out this year, JCN stands out as the best of the bunch. A nice, mellow album that has some great roots country and a couple almost jazzy numbers that just create a solid album.
Tracks of choice - Dear John (Nora Jones duet), Games, PA
Hail To The Redskins!
Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006Bring on Tampa!
And on top of that, they just signed Gregg Williams for another three years.
Woo doggie!
