Message to Dodd — Democratic primary voters like to support loyal Democrats. Looks like you just failed that very, very simply litmus test.
Says the man who backed holiday Democrat James Webb over lifetime Democrat Harris Miller.
Why are “progressive” Dems who scream about appealing to the middle attacking Joe Lieberman so hard when he’s one of the more moderate sitting Democratic Senators?
Ah, single issue…
There’s a simple difference between James Webb and Joe Lieberman in terms of being a “loyal Democrat”.
Jim Webb may not always have been a Democrat, but when he entered the Democratic primary, he pledged to abide by the democratic process and support the Democratic winner of the primary, even if he lost.
In contrast, Joe Lieberman still wants to win the Democratic primary, but he has said that if he loses, he will get himself on the ballot anyway as an independent. He’s pre-emptively declaring the Democratic primary invalid just in case he loses.
That’s what Markos is talking about. I won’t even get into Joe Lieberman’s other violations of loyalty — as you well know, Republicans like you are very fond of Boltin’ Joe becuase he is far more likely to get on Fox News to bash Democrats than he is to even issue mildly worded criticisms of his buddy George Bush. That’s not “moderation”, that’s pandering to the opposition.
Of course the war issue is part of it. But perhaps Kos mostly wants to show what he can do.
If Lieberman loses, with Kos and his following undercutting him, it will make the netroots thing seem more important. At this point in his rise to prominence, Kos seems more interested in demonstrating his clout as a player than in winning the Senate for the donkeys.
