It’s early yet and there’s certainly to be more details and information to come out in the future but my initial reaction is about the two men who’s actions may have very well stopped this act: the vendor who saw it and the officer who first reacted.
Of the t-shirt vendor Lance Orton:
When asked if he was proud of his actions, he said: “Of course, man. I’m a veteran. What do you think?”
For his part, Rhatigan, 47, said he still plans to retire this year after 19 years of service.
“Of all the idiots in New York, I find this thing,” he said. “I was almost a fireball.”
The event is frightening. Their modesty is moving.
